St Cuthbert's Catholic School
Welcome to The Retreat!
The Retreat is St Cuthbert's new Resourced Provision, opened September 2024.
We have places for up to 12 children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
Look around the before and after of our new classroom and outdoor area!
Our teacher is Miss Lynch and our teaching assistant is Mrs Hurst.
Maths and English
Every day we complete Maths and English tasks. We take part in daily mental arithmetic and also follow the White Rose Maths Scheme according to each child's individual needs. In English, we use books and film/video clips as a stimuli, and take part in Drawing Club. In Drawing Club we explore the characters, settings and adventures of the stories we hear about. Each child completes their work on the cusp of their confidence through drawing and applying their knowledge and learning.
RE
Alongside Maths and English, also take part in RE sessions most days to learn about our Catholic Faith and the ethos behind our school. Our RE lessons follow the Plymouth Diocese scheme and the Religious Education Directory from the Diocese of Lancaster.
Our Curriculum
In The Retreat, we are lucky enough to be able to access the outdoors regularly. We spend a lot of time in our Forest School, looking after the chickens and playing in mud. As we have a focus on SEMH, we spend plenty of time developing social skills and learning to regulate as well as focusing on the core subjects. The curriculum is bespoke to the children we have in our class and individual needs are catered to as much as possible. This means children feel secure in their environment and can develop their skills where needed, without the pressure of a larger class setting.
